European Greatswords and Two Handed Long Swords
Two Handed Long Swords or Great Swords began to appear in the later periods of the dark ages. They were particularly effective against the continual advancements of plate armor, where the single handed swords could no longer compete.

A two-handed sword is a type of European sword that requires the use of both hands to wield effectively. These swords typically have a long blade, measuring between 4 to 6 feet in length, and a long hilt that allows for a two-handed grip. This grip allows for greater control over the sword, enabling the wielder to deliver powerful and precise strikes.
Two-handed swords come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they are known by different names depending on their specific characteristics and origins. For instance, the Scottish claymore, a type of two-handed sword, is named after the Gaelic word "claidheamh mor," which means "great sword." The German zweihander is another type of two-handed sword that has a longer blade than most other types, with some measuring up to 7 feet in length.
A Greatsword is defined by its long, two-handed grip and a blade that is typically over 4 feet in length. They are designed to be used for powerful cutting and thrusting attacks and are often used in the context of heavy cavalry, foot soldiers, and elite warriors. Greatswords are not to be confused with Longswords, which are also two-handed swords but typically have shorter blades
Both spellings are used, but "Greatsword" without a space is the more common spelling.
