Tourney Knightly Sword

The Tourney Hand-and-a-Half Knightly Sword from Kingston Arms brings the presence of a late medieval sword to reenactment, theatrical combat and historical interpretation. Forged with a blunt 9260 high carbon spring steel blade and substantial two-handed capable hilt, this sword is designed for enthusiasts who want more than a decorative piece. Its 2mm rounded edges, generous grip and robust hilt construction make it particularly well suited to an armoured medieval impression.

The design draws closely from an Oakeshott Type XVIIIa sword documented in Records of the Medieval Sword, while incorporating changes appropriate to a blunt tourney sword. Type XVIIIa swords are associated with the later medieval period and are generally recognized for their long blades and grips that permit two-handed use. This interpretation is especially at home alongside a 14th to mid 15th century man-at-arms or knightly portrayal. A long fuller gives this particular recreation a distinctive profile while helping reduce blade mass and influence the sword's overall balance.

At the heart of this blunt hand and a half sword is a forged 9260 spring steel blade tempered to approximately 50 HRc. The stainless steel guard incorporates Kingston Arms' King-Peen system, which uses a steel tab beneath the grip pinned through the tang to help prevent the guard from loosening during repeated use. The stainless steel pommel is pressed into position and hot peened, completing the durable through-tang hilt construction.

The oval, slightly barrel-shaped grip has a wood core with cord and leather wrapping, providing a secure and comfortable hold while leaving enough room for armoured hands. At 41 1/4 inches overall with a 32 3/4 inch blade, the sword has the proportions and commanding appearance expected from a medieval hand-and-a-half design. A wood-core, leather-wrapped scabbard with stainless steel chape is also included, completing a Kingston Arms Tourney Series sword made with the historical reenactor and medieval enthusiast in mind.
