Medieval Irish Weaponry

Irish ring hilt swords are valuable artifacts that offer a window into the martial and cultural traditions of medieval Ireland. The 19th century marked a significant period for such discoveries, with several notable finds in locations like the River Shannon and Lough Corrib. These early finds contributed to the growing body of knowledge about medieval Irish weaponry.

Powerful Slashing and Cutting

Irish ring hilt swords are primarily associated with the later medieval period, roughly between the 9th and 16th centuries. Handling of artifacts revealed that these pieces were most likely used for powerful slashing and cutting attacks as opposed to thrusting. The ring hilt design made the hilts much lighter than expected moving the balance point further down the blade from the hilt, resulting in blade heaviness and harder strikes.

C60 High Carbon Steel

Deepeeka's version features a C60 high carbon steel blade that is left unsharpened for the re-enactor but can be used for cutting with our optional sharpening service. It is very well balanced and fast handling for a sword with the Irish ring pommel type. This sword includes a wooden cored scabbard that is leather wrapped and stitched for an authentic feel.
