Kabza Basi

Of all the sabers that originated in central Asia, the Kilij has one of the most interesting blade profiles in the history of the curved blade. It displays the gracefully curved shape we picture in our heads when we hear “saber”, but with an innovative widening at the end to increase chopping power. This blade shape enabled a thrusting attack, giving it a tactical advantage over extremely curved swords like the Shamshir. This replica is copied from an Ottoman Kilij made in the 19th century known as a “Pala”. The Kilij was prominent during the Seljuk, Timurid, Mamluk and Ottoman empires. Curved blades so impressed European armies that crossed paths with them that the Western nations soon developed similar swords that are still used today for ceremonial dress. The brass guard is embellished with a geometric border and the almond shaped quillons (siperliks) feature a floral motif. The hardwood grip is constructed with the back-curved head known as the Kabza Basi. An important sword for your historical collection. Arrives pre-sharpened. The leather scabbard has a brass throat, mid-collar and chape and brass carry-rings.
