The ancient Frankish Warriors would form a rough line an arm’s throw from their foe and hurl light spears and these axes before charging in with sword and shield for individual combat. This distinct axe is perfect for throwing with its solid steel head and hardwood shaft.

"well made for the price though I would like a handle that swells at the butt end instead of being straight."

"Takes some serious work to make sharp but a nice looking and well build axe"

Response: added an optional sharpening service

"The wood was smooth and the head had a great finish; the blade and edge geometry is dramatically different than the lighter and more combat-oriented Francesca product - the Frankish Axe is thicker, heavier and bulkier - the mass may make it a reasonable throwing weapon but additionally sharpening is needed if you intend to throw it and have it stick in wooden targets. It may find some utility as a wood-splitting hatchet but the angle of the edge may limit that. Unlike the Francesca product - the Frankish Axe does not hold well in the Canadian winter: when the temperatures fell the wood shrank and the head came off - so if you get this product and intend to use it in this climate, then be prepared for a small DIY project.
