Cavalier Rapier

The Cold Steel Cavalier Rapier captures an intriguing moment in European sword development, when the long, imposing rapiers of the Renaissance were beginning to give way to lighter and more agile swords. With its pierced shell guard, slender double edged blade and elaborate protective hilt, this transitional rapier has the unmistakable presence of a 17th century gentleman's sword. During the 17th century, European civilian swords continued to evolve as fashions and fencing methods changed. The rapier remained closely associated with personal defence and the culture of the gentleman, but swords gradually became shorter and lighter, eventually leading toward the smallsword that would dominate fashionable civilian wear in the following century. The Cavalier Rapier takes its inspiration from this transitional period, retaining the substantial hand protection and visual character of the rapier while adopting a more compact blade and lively proportions.

Cold Steel equips the Cavalier Rapier with a sharp, double edged blade with an acute point, paired with a tempered steel hilt incorporating a pierced shell guard, rings, quillons and knuckle bow. A wire wrapped grip provides the traditional appearance expected of a sword from the period, while the pommel serves as a counterbalance to the blade for responsive handling. The sword is supplied with a hand stitched leather scabbard finished with a steel throat, chape and integral belt hook.
