The Practical Katana gives the martial artist the opportunity to own and use a functional sword at the cost of an economy sword. Pre-sharpened for the martial artist and tameshigiri cutting. This sword has been produced for safe use in the dojo for someone trained or receiving training in a sword martial arts discipline. Produced by Hanwei under direction of Paul Chen this is a perfect katana for the beginner made by a reputable sword maker.

Authentic Katana Blade

The blade is forged and differentially tempered, using the same process as the more expensive blades and producing an RC60 edge and RC40 back. The temper line and hamon are authentic and prominent. Cost savings are are found by using simple furnishings and fittings which make no claims to authenticity, but are very strongly built to withstand the rigours of cutting exercises. The samegawa has been replaced with a less expensive synthetic with no affect to the gripping ability of the tsuka-ito

"I have purchased two (2) other Practical Katanas in the past and been very satisfied with the quality of Hanwei's 2lb, 3oz. sword. I was quite shocked when I received my latest PK from Reliks. The katana weighed in at 2lbs 7oz. and was of a significantly higher quality in regards to the blade's polish and geometry. This NEW Hanwei Practical Katana still has a 65Mn carbon steel blade with a differential heat treat (40hrc spine/60hrc edge) however the additional 1/4lb of steel insures the blade will stand up to even the largest and heaviest of tameshigiri targets. The service from Reliks was superb (as usual) taking only a few days for the product to arrive after my online order was placed. Thank's again Reliks - You're the best!!!"
