High quality ray skin (same) is used on the tsuka. The tsuka-ito is made of premium dark blue Japanese cotton. The tsuba is crafted in blacken iron, with detailing in gold and silver and a frog on lily pad scene decoration. The silk sageo compliments the theme of the Frog and is elegently woven in a matching dark blue. The fuchi and kashira are of black with brass detailing, and the kojiri, koiguchi and kurikata are of polished buffalo horn. The habaki is a one-piece brass construction

Symbolic Meaning

In Japan, frogs hold significant symbolic meaning and are often associated with good luck and positive outcomes, attributes that favour the samurai.

  • Wisdom and Transformation: The samurai might be seen as someone who values wisdom and personal growth. The frog's metamorphosis from tadpole to adult symbolizes transformation and the ability to adapt and change.
  • Good Fortune and Prosperity: The samurai could be expressing a desire for good luck and prosperity. The frog as a symbol of returning wealth and fortune might indicate that the samurai hopes for success and abundance in his endeavors.
  • Safe Travels and Protection: By incorporating the frog motif, the samurai might be invoking protection and safe travels. This could be particularly relevant for a warrior who often embarks on journeys or missions, wishing for a safe return.
