Sea waves are unique in the duality of their existence. They are fleeting yet eternal with their ebb and flow. The sound of sea waves can invoke a serene calmness and relaxation or fear and mortal dread when violently stirred. In medieval Japan the “katana” was symbol of peace, power and order but when in the wrong hands could be used for chaos, death and destruction. The Sea Wave Wakizashi from Dragon King embodies similar dualities in their existence. The placid blue saya conceals a rippling folded steel blade featuring bo-hi (groove) collared by a silver hibaki and notched seppa. The hada and hamon mirror the silver turbulent waves depicted tsuba, kashira and fuchi. Silver and gold menuki contrast against the dark blue tsuka handle wrap overlaid white same (ray skin). A blue and white sageo complete the saya accented by buffalo horn kurikata and koiguchi. The Sea Wave Wakizashi features another duality between being a formidable weapon and a work of art.
