Although we do not know the exact form and shape of the viking hewing spear, we do know that they were used. Hank Reinhardt designed this spear based on his own experience. This is a spear that would thrust effectively, and yet have the power to cut decisively. High carbon steel blade. Slim and attractive, it is just the spear to carry on your next Medieval outing. The outside diameter of the throat is aprox 1 1/4" Will accept a larger pole once tapered. Pole not included.

"Spearhead is good for the price, nicely profiled and tapered blade, slightly uneven but you have to look for imperfections. The waist at the socket may be a bit thin, haven't put it up to test yet so can't comment upon the durability and heat treatment."

V - Verified Buyer

"This spearhead is very long. The measurements are all correct, but I was still taken aback by it. The only criticism I would have is that the socket isn't very large and narrows to quite a degree. This means that the shaft of the spear is hard to make thick enough to not be overly whippy. It also means that the joint between the head and the socket doesn't seem very strong (read: capable of withstanding a large amount of abuse, not just use). The design could benefit from a larger socket and a more robust connection between socket and blade. Other than that it is magnificent."

M - Verified Buyer

"Superb blade, excellent heat treatment. Against all other reviews, it does feel substantial enough. Very flexible, even if it's edge holding abilities aren't like a katana"
