Hoplite Dory

The ancient Greek Hoplite was a heavily armed foot soldier whose principal weapon was the long shadowed spear(dory or doru). It was a weapon that varied in length from 6 to 18 feet, and could be used both as spear and pike in the phalanx. Shorter versions were used as throwing weapons. The earlier versions were made of bronze, but iron, once it was available, became the material of choice. The outside diameter of the throat is aprox 1 1/4" and will accept a larger pole once tapered.

Building Your Own Greek Spear?

We also offer a Greek Buttcap and Bo Staff to complete your custom Hoplite spear, or simply use a longer wooden pole to make a Greek Sarissa.
