Mainz Gladius Origins

The Mainz-style gladius was prominent during the early Roman Empire, specifically from the late 1st century BCE to the early 1st century CE. This type of gladius is associated with the Roman legions during the late Republic and the early Empire periods, roughly from 20 BCE to 80 CE.

Mainz known as Mogontiacum in ancient times was a crucial Roman military and administrative center that gave its name to the Mainz-style gladius, reflecting the city's importance in Roman military history.

Improved Mainz Gladius

Deepeeka's version of the Mogontiacum (Mainz) style gladius is nicely decorated for the the Roman re-enactor and is great for period costuming, but we have had them take it a step further. Our version of the Deepeeka Mainz style gladius has been improved by adding a properly forged and tempered high carbon steel blade! This gladius is capable of theatrical steel-on-steel duels and if sharpened it can be used for cutting sword targets.
