A Sword of the Confederate Cavalry

This authentic American Civil War Cavalry Saber is a faithful reproduction of the sword carried by Confederate General Jo Shelby, the famed Missouri cavalry raider who never surrendered his command. Hand-forged and fully tempered, this piece captures the strength, elegance, and battlefield presence of the original sabers wielded during the war. With its ornate blade and detailed fittings, it stands as both a functional weapon and a striking historical collectible.

Historical Background

Cavalry sabers were a defining weapon of mounted units during the mid-19th century. Light, fast, and effective from horseback, these long, curved swords gave cavalrymen the reach and cutting power they needed in charges and close combat. General Jo Shelby, known as one of the Confederacy’s most daring cavalry commanders, carried a saber much like this one throughout his campaigns. Etched with the symbols of the Confederate States, these swords became lasting emblems of the turbulent and transformative Civil War era.

Product Details

This handmade saber features a flexible, ornate 32” blade of 1075 high carbon steel, crisply acid-etched with “C.S.A.” The guard is cast with “C.S.” in sharp relief, echoing the original detailing. Its grip is wood-cored, wrapped in leather and bound with brass wire for a secure and traditional hold. The blued steel scabbard includes brass throats, mounts, rings, and drag, offering both durability and period-correct aesthetics. Fully tempered and built with authentic materials, this saber is crafted to perform and present just as the originals did over 150 years ago.
