Made by the government contractor Windlass Steelcrafts. Hand forged from high carbon steel. Each comes with regulation sheath. Used with devastating effectiveness by the famous Nepalese Gurkhas in the Siege of Delhi in 1857, in the trenches of WWI France, throughout the New Guinea jungle in WWII, and with distinction in the Falkland Islands. The full profile tang blade is an impressive 1/4" thick with deep grooves and the traditional religious notch. It is differentially heat treated with an approximate Rockwell hardness of 45 at the spine and 53 at the cutting edge. Traditional, native hardwood handle and metal butt plate. Includes leather scabbard with accessory knives. Genuine military issue to Gurkha Regiments in India, this is the only Kukri on the market that comes with a copy of the government contract, the ordinance drawing, and spec sheet. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes factory sharp. Can be personalized with up to 3 initials for additional fees. The accessory knives: The chakmak & karda accessory knives are a traditional part of the kukri. The chakmak has no edge. It is a honing/sharpening tool of hardened “sharpening” steel with a wood handle. This tool is used to is to maintain the kukri edge and ensure it always has a sharp and burr-free edge. The chakmak also makes a great as a striker since the spine is flat and rigid. The karda, on the other hand, does have an edge. This little knife is great for detailed tasks such as skinning, carving, or whittling. The scabbard: The scabbard is designed to have a slightly loose fit and intended to be worn with the blade-tip down. Because of the extreme compound curvature of the blade, a conventional tight fit would make the knife very difficult to remove without cutting through the scabbard and possibly the hand holding it. Additionally, the wood lining in the sheath may absorb moisture and swell in humid conditions; this must be accounted for when the scabbard is made. Colour may vary on wooden handle.

"Note if one wants it sharp, and one doesn't have a belt sander and the skills to thin out the primary bevel, one should order it using RELIKS sharpening service: I'll be sharpening it myself eventually. It is an accurate reproduction of Indian and Commonwealth WWII military issue Kukri, but I find that the forward section of the handle is very thick and round and question the period military design board who didn't seem to understand ergonomics very well in my opinion ! I sort of fixed that by thinning the handle a bit between the mid-handle wooden risers and the forward rivet by hand carving and sanding it to a narrower more oval shape. If one holds the handle near the end of the handle with the index finger in front of the wooden riser it feels OK on the unmodified handle. I can't tell how good an edge it will take before I sharpen it myself, but the steel does seem hard enough at the " edge " that a metal file skates on it, so the heat treat seems good as are most of the Windlass knives or swords that I already have. If one orders it sharpened by RELIKS I would upgrade my rating to 5."
