Bollocks Dagger

Before the Scottish dirk became one of the most recognizable blades of the Highlands, earlier dagger forms had already established a long tradition of personal sidearms in Scotland. The Scottish Bollock Dagger by Kingston Arms recreates one of these distinctive historical designs for collectors of Scottish arms and medieval weaponry. Its unmistakable lobed guard, wood grip and compact proportions give it a character quite different from the later dirk, making it an excellent companion piece to a collection of Scottish swords, Highland arms or historical daggers.

The Bollock Dagger was a widespread European dagger form with a history extending from the medieval period into later centuries, including a strong association with Britain and Scotland. It was commonly carried as a secondary sidearm to supplement larger arms such as the sword and lance. Traditional examples frequently incorporated wooden grips, including examples made from box root, or dudgeon, which gave rise to the alternative name dudgeon dagger. In Scotland, this earlier family of daggers is particularly interesting to collectors because it preceded and influenced the development of the Scottish dirk that became so closely associated with Highland culture.

Kingston Arms gives this Scottish dagger reproduction a 10 1/4 inch blade forged from 1566 carbon steel and a 4 inch hexagonal wood grip. Stainless steel guards reproduce the characteristic profile of the historical Bollock Dagger, while a stainless steel cap finishes the grip. The dagger weighs approximately 10 ounces and measures 15 3/4 inches overall. A traditional leather belt sheath is included, complete with rear stitching, a stainless steel chape and an integrated belt loop.
