Civil War Knife

Popular in the Confederacy during the Civil War for its all-purpose capabilities, the D-Guard Bowie chopped branches, split logs, sliced saplings, and even had its way with a Yankee or two. Re-enactors use it to dig cannon emplacements! The steel guard can withstand punishment and the massive, high carbon steel blade holds an edge well. A soldier on the move soon learns to travel light, so a handmade Bowie was often treasured as a backup weapon when the entire cavalry was "under the guns." Grip is contoured wood with a light stain. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Includes leather sheath with metal furniture. Arrives sharpened from the factory.

"over all good, though the blade had been peened crooked."

"Feel more like a very short cutlass than a knife sized bowie, but very nice. Hilt and guard feel solid on the blade. False edge not sharpened but I can do that myself with my best sander. Even if light in weight it has a lot of blade presence so that it would have a lot of chopping power relative to it's size. Blade finish is smooth with no visible grind marks, but short of a mirror polish, but I prefer satin finishes to mirror finishes, but I don't like over coarse grind marks on some other knives. Final word: I like it."
