Although the Germans were noted for having a fondness for large cutting swords, they did not neglect the rapier. The rapier in several different forms was the primary civilian weapon in all of Europe for close to three hundred years. The rapier we have chosen to replicate is in the Wallace Collection, #A536. It dates from the latter half of the 16th C with a hilt very similar to many of the Saxon rapiers from the period. The blade has a stiff diamond cross-section, with a fuller that runs most of its length. Guard and pommel are blackened steel, while the grip is cord wrapped wood. The blade is tempered, high carbon steel. Comes with leather scabbard. This is a beautiful and accurate functional sword, and is the perfect weapon to wear for this period.
