A magnificent reproduction of a chainmaille butted shirt which was the principal body defense of the knights in the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries. The mail shirt is constructed of 16 gauge in the “European” 4 in 1 pattern. Outer link diameter of each link is about 7/16", inner link dia. is about 3/8". Chain mail was commonly worn over a quilted gambeson which prevented the body from being bruised when the mail was struck. This piece is zinc plated to prevent rust but we recommend keeping it oiled. Shirt Only. Fits up to a 54" chest. Weighs aprox. 23 1/2 Lbs.
