Worn with large amounts of padding, the Great Helm provided superb protection. Worn over a smaller helmet, as was frequently done, it was almost impossible to penetrate. Much attention was given to helms and helmet design since it is a natural instinct to protect the head in combat. Few Great Helms have survived the centuries; we have copied one frequently shown in old illustrations and monuments. This spectacular work is crafted of 18 gauge steel with reinforced sights and riveted and welded sections, and features a ring on the top that was used for securing decorative attachments like horsetail hair. Measures roughly 15 inches tall. lbs. 8 oz.
