Citadel Dragon Tanto

The Citadel Dragon Tanto is the matching companion to Citadel’s acclaimed Dragon Katana. Like its larger counterpart, this hand forged tanto is entirely handmade in Citadel’s small custom shop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Each piece is crafted individually from start to finish, resulting in a one-of-a-kind work of art that reflects the skill and dedication of Citadel’s master smiths. Limited to just 100 pieces worldwide, every tanto is signed and numbered by the smith on the nakago (tang) and includes a matching certificate of authenticity.

Forged in Water and Steel

The Dragon Tanto continues the water dragon (nami) theme shared with the katana, featuring a wave-pattern tsuba and turbulent water fuchi and kashira. The DNH7 high carbon steel blade is hand forged and differentially hardened using traditional clay-tempering techniques, then hand polished with natural stones and powders to produce a rich, authentic finish. The fittings—including the tsuba, fuchi, and kashira—are meticulously hand cut and shaped from pure iron, a time-consuming process that only a handful of swordsmiths worldwide still perform. Each fitting develops its own subtle character, ensuring no two Dragon Tanto are ever alike.

Elegance in Every Detail

The tsuka (handle) is hand carved to each individual blade for a perfect friction fit, then wrapped in dark blue Japanese silk ito over a full same-gawa (ray skin) wrap. The saya (scabbard) is a work of art in itself—completely wrapped in ray skin and hand-carved for an exact fit. Each tanto radiates the balance, precision, and grace that define Citadel’s craftsmanship. Whether displayed alone or paired with the Dragon Katana, the Citadel Dragon Tanto is a limited-edition masterpiece that captures the essence of Japanese swordmaking tradition.
