Ogami Itto Katana

The Ogami Itto Katana brings one of Japanese manga and cinema’s most memorable swords into the hands of collectors. Created by Dragon King as a tribute to the sword carried by Ogami Itto in Lone Wolf and Cub, this recreation deliberately avoids excessive ornamentation in favour of the restrained appearance associated with the wandering executioner. For fans of the series, Japanese sword collectors, and those drawn to distinctive katana designs, it is a piece with an unusually personal connection to its maker.

That connection begins with Dragon King founder Frenchie Jin, whose interest in swords was inspired in his youth by Lone Wolf and Cub. The influential series follows Ogami Itto, the former executioner of the shogun, on his journey with his young son Daigoro. Rather than simply borrowing the name, Dragon King recreated the visual character of Ogami Itto's katana, making this sword both a tribute to the series and to the story that helped inspire Jin's lifelong interest in sword making.

The sword is built around a forged T10 steel blade measuring approximately 28 1/4 inches, with a hardened edge rated around HRC 60 and a softer back around HRC 40. Its furniture gives the katana much of its unmistakable character. A blackened cupronickel awabi shell tsuba is paired with polished fuchi and kashira etched with Japanese dogwood blossoms. Black cotton ito wraps the tsuka over white same, while silver dragon menuki provide a subtle contrast beneath the wrap.

The black ribbed saya continues the understated design with black buffalo horn fittings, black sageo, and a silver steel kojiri carrying the same Japanese dogwood blossom motif. A particularly appealing detail is the included silver kozuka and small knife, also decorated with the dogwood design. At approximately 40 3/4 inches overall, the Ogami Itto Katana is a substantial Dragon King recreation that combines traditional Japanese sword construction with a design rooted in the enduring legacy of Lone Wolf and Cub.
