Developed around the mid thirteenth century, the heater shield became the principle shield for knights. The relatively small size of the shield made it ideal for mounted combat. However, it was still large enough to provide protection on the ground. This shield bears the fleur de lis as well as the lion along with a crackle finish surrounded by a brass edge accent. Swords can be crossed behind this shield to make this piece the centrepiece of any room. This shield measures 24" tall and 17 1/4" wide.
