In the early part of the Renaissance, there was constant experimentation on developing better and better swords and different means of fighting. One result was the long sword, which was a lighter version of the hand and a half. The sword we have decided to replicate is of an Oakeshott Type XIX and based on several swords we have examined over the years. High carbon steel blade tapers gently to a stout point. This sword is to be used with one or two hands. The 8" ricasso allows the blade to be gripped (and functionally shortened) for a close combat thrust. This is the style of sword that was quite popular with the Italian Bravos; light, fast, capable of both cutting and thrusting. This functional sword is made by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes complete with leather scabbard. Steel guard and pommel with a brass center. Grip is wood wrapped with leather.
