Several years ago we offered a forged Medieval sword with a Viking pommel shown in "The Archaeology Of Weapons". We've had so many requests for it we decided to bring it back, but we couldn't resist dressing it up a little. Nobody knows how the original viking sword was fitted out, so we've come up with a hilt covered with dark red leather to make a really beautiful forged high carbon steel sword, and above all, the blade and grip combine to provide a weapon of superb balance and cutting ability. The transitional viking blade has a definite taper from below the hilt and several have asked if this was due to a great deal of sharpening. Frankly, we don't think so, as there are a couple of other blades of this shape. Aside from being pleasing to the eye, making the blade a bit wider puts more weight back toward the grip, thus making the blade fast and better balanced. Date is about 1100 A.D. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts® of forged high carbon steel with a good temper. This functional sword comes with a scabbard. Overall-38 1/2" * Blade-32 1/2" long, 2 3/4" wide * Wt.-2 lbs. 12 oz.
