The mounted knights met the foot soldiers of Flanders outside their city of Cassel. The Flemish Pikemen could not hold their ground against the hard charging French cavalry and were ridden down and killed by the thousands. This Middle Age sword is a prime example of the type sword that would have been used by the conquering French knights. By this period more emphasis was being put on the appearance of weapons, resulting in swords like this one that truly deserve to be described as art. A well balanced cutting sword, the long graceful steel guard provides excellent hand protection. The pommel is also steel and the wood grip is covered in twisted wire for a positive hold and is long enough for the sword to be classified as a bastard sword. The blade is made from well-tempered 1095 high carbon steel and the scabbard is included. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.
