The Irish came up with some truly beautiful swords. Ewart Oakeshott recently sent Bruce a photo of this well-proportioned hand-and-a-half pattern and suggested that we do a replica, calling it "a truly lovely sword." This sword is believed to date from about 1500 AD. The hilt is characteristically Irish, with the flaring "S" guard and usual Irish ring for the pommel. Although the description of this sword is accurate, it doesn't begin to tell of the speed, balance and feel of the weapon- quick and agile. The Irish warriors relied on speed and agility; it was only natural for their weapons to follow suit. A beautiful, deadly example of the Irish fighting mind. Hilt that surrounds the well-tempered high carbon steel blade is steel and the grip is wood, covered with leather. This functional sword comes with a leather scabbard.
