Two-hand swords increased in popularity from the 15th to midway into the 17th century. Originally used to break up pike formations, they were so impressive that soon all important people had their guards armed with huge weapons, and they were also used in duels. Some of these swords got so big that they were completely useless as weapons. Our replica is of a real fighting blade that at one time was in the Christensen Collection. This is a functional sword, light enough to use effectively, but heavy enough to do a great deal of damage to all types of armor, whether mail or plate. The secondary guards allow the blade to the shortened for close work or for thrusting. Guard and pommel are steel, grip is leather wrapped wood. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Overall-58" * Blade-44" long, 1 5/8" wide, 3/16" thick * Wt.-4 lb. 12 oz.
