The dagger was a very important part of the dress of everyone from about 1200-1600, from peasant to nobility. The higher the station, the nicer the knife. The sword-hilted dagger was preferred by the Nobility and warriors of the period, as it served very well for utilitatian purposes, and was excellent as a last ditch self-defense weapon. It could also be used in the left hand in conjunction with a sword in the right when no shield was available. Although not copied directly from any specific dagger, this double edged weapon is highly representative of the style carried around 1400. Crossguard and pommel are of steel, wooden grip is wrapped with leather. Blade is hand crafted from high carbon steel. Overall- 20" * Blade- 14" long, 1 5/8" wide * Wt.- 1 1/2 lbs.
