The most sought after and difficult mail to make. End of each mild steel link is flattened and riveted. Prized for its durability. A magnificent reproduction of a riveted chainmaille coif which was the principal head defense of the knights in the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries. The coif is constructed of 7/16” diameter rings 16 gauge in the “European” 4 in 1 pattern with each link being individually riveted. The coif is full mantle and can be worn with or without a helmet. Outer link diameter of each link is about 7/16", inner link dia. is about 3/8". Chain mail was commonly worn over a quilted gambeson which prevented the body from being bruised when the mail was struck. This piece is zinc plated to prevent rust but we recommend keeping it oiled.
